Having lived in the Twin Cities for 7 years (I went to grad school at U of Minnesota) and grown up in Indiana until I was almost 13, Tim Walz brings me back to the days of common sense Democrats in the mold of FDR (my grandparents in both sides were FDR Democrats) and in the tradition of Phil Sharp, who has championed climate and environmental policies yet also was the sponsor of Natural Gas deregulation in the late 1980s, but also progressive ideas of Senator Birch Bayh whose son Evan later was elected Governor of Indiana.

Walz is right: it is about compassion for your neighbors and compromise without compromising your values. Live and let live and mind your own business. Whether as a child of Indiana, whose heart lives in North Florida (Go Gators), and who has been shaped by Minneapolis, Philly, and DC where I have lived and worked, these are values and messages that will resonate with the vast majority of people in this country.
