Very good piece. It’s not clear to me how any of Netanyahu’s decisions actually make Israel safe

Thanks Elise, another fine report.

We have been suffering this crisis for forty five years already, since Jimmy Carter's damaging reaction to the Khomani revolution and the hostages in 1979. If Hezbolah and Hamas started this current violence on Oct 8 and 7 respectively. So I see no reason Israel needs to get Biden's "blessing" other than out of respect.

The Biden administration is not blindsided by Israel's moves even if not consulted. Even David in California can see what's happening.

The crumbling diplomatic situation is an opportunity to take the fight to Tehran once and for all and save us from 45 more years of this violence. Action taken in 1979 would have done just that. If the Iranian regime looks weak in the eyes of their people, it sets the stage for an overthrow. Past US administrations have dropped the ball on peaceful Iranian regime change. There is plenty of support in the Arab world for letting Israel and the US pacify Iran. Let it be done before we are too weak to make any difference. We must understand that Iran and her allies intend to destroy us one way or the other.

All true. But what did you expect Israel to do? October 7 happened. There was no option of sending a few cops into Gaza to arrest the perpetrators, was there now. And as of October 8 Hezbollah sent thousands of rockets and USVs into Israel. I guess Israel should have asked the UN to intervene? Sorry, but the world by standing by passively while Israeli was attacked again and again, the Pals refusing to compromise and Teheran threatening with the total destruction of Israel, what did you expect? When my father was a “guest” in Auschwitz, there was nothing he could do. And the Allies refused to bomb Auschwitz and the US did not allow ships with Jewish refugees to anchor. Fortunately the times have changed ( not for latent and open antisemitism in the US) and the Jews don’t walk like sheep to the gas chambers anymore.

No doubt ISIS beheadings would now be cast as Heroic ISIS warriors slaughter infidel pigs by the NYT and Whitewash Post. If Bin Laden regularly blew up domestic US targets Biden would call for a ceasefire. Meanwhile Ukraine is invaded by Russia and Ukraine neighbours say we can't help you because you signed the wrong worthless guarantee of help.

The issue is genocide in Palestine. Not ISIS.

You ignored the fact that Israel hasn’t just taken off the head of the snake (Hezbollah) it has removed the torso also. This is a very good thing for the world. This belly aching about it is pathetic.

II said good riddance to Nasrallah so I think that means his death was a good thing. But I don’t consider it belly aching to point out the US policy. Regardless, this isn’t Twitter - we try to be respectful of one another here. Thanks.

No where in your article do you mention the US is supplying Israel with arms. If we stopped, they'd at least have to find another vendor unless they've stockpiled what we've given them so far. I'd much prefer all that fire power was being sent to Ukraine.

And the U.S. should perpetuate the absurd level of charity to one small country? Even as our charitable ward, Israel, refuses to even acknowledge the wishes of the United States and its President?

The defense of Israel on 10/7 was compromised by an inept IDF that couldn’t defend the country’s border with Gaza.

Of course, Israel is always free to go its own way and completely ignore all input from the United States along with refusing to be in the grocery subordinate position of being a charitable award of the United States, fully dependent on the charitable inclinations of the citizens of another country.

Israel‘s constant expansionism, under which it seizes more and more illegally occupied land on a constant basis, does more to imperil Israel than any advice and requests that it receives from the country on which it is so dependent. There is a simple fact at play here. Once Israel expands to absorb East Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights and, eventually Gaza, it will control land where it has more Arabs under its dominion than it has Jews. It will have to figure out how it runs that country on an equitable basis Where the United States doesn’t hold his nose to be associated with it.

There is no use in discussing anything with you. You would not recognise a fact or the truth if it hit you in the face. And don’t bother to reply. I know exactly what you are going to say.
