I'd like to understand the lens from what you analyze the Affairs that you cover. Where would you locate your self on the ideological Spectrum of today, of 2000? Who did you vote for in the presidential election of 2000? To what political party do you belong?

John: Long ago politics used to “stop at the waters edge,” meaning domestic politics didn’t drive foreign policy. I recognize that is no longer the case. But I don’t personally approach international through an ideological lens, but rather from years of experience covering international affairs. I believe in an America that is a force for good in the world, one which stands up for democracy and human rights - and I don’t believe that is a political ideology. I call both sides out and give credit to both sides where it is due.
