What I am really interested in is how Hamas has managed to use terrorist tactics of attacking civilians to actually garner support and sympathy for a Palestinian state. They probably expected the Israeli retaliation, were prepared to or let’s say were willing to let the Gazans pay the price for their acts and now a Palestinian state becomes a topic discussed much more widely, with the two state solution being the “only long term solution” that people vouch for.

I don’t think Hamas launched the attacks to help the Palestinians. As you rightly point out, they were willing to let the citizens of Gaza pay the price for their actions. I do think after the utter devastation of Gaza, the feeling is something has to come out of the rubble for the Palestinians other than grief- otherwise the next generation will be Hamas 2.0

A thoughtful and well informed article on a critical moment in geopolitics. I would be interested to hear what 'modest' requirements Biden might impose on U.S. aid to Israel.
